Benjamin Britten (1913-1976), Cello Sonata op. 65
Three English composers – and yet three very different paths.
Benjamin Britten is today considered one of the most important British composers of the 20th century. Less well known is his teacher, Frank Bridge, whose finely crafted chamber music builds a bridge between Romantic tradition and modern expressiveness.
Percy Sherwood, in contrast, offers a completely different perspective: born in Dresden, he was long part of the German musical landscape – until the First World War forced him to return to London, the homeland of his English father. His music combines late-Romantic depth with British elegance.
With the programme “Echoes from England”, the REVISION Project invites the audience to rediscover rarely performed works for cello and piano: alongside Britten’s well-known Cello Sonata, compositions by Bridge and Sherwood will be heard – pieces that have all but vanished from today’s concert stages. The result is a musical portrait of England in transition, shaped by three personal and stylistically diverse voices.

The cellist Valentina Dubrovina and the pianist Silvia Carlin met in Basel ten years ago while studying at the Hochschule für Musik. Their shared passion for rare and overlooked music led them to found the REVISION Project. Through a thoughtfully curated repertoire and refined interpretations, they shape the identity of the project and embody its high musical standards.
Both are award winners of renowned international competitions and have established their musical careers in Switzerland and Europe.
Valentina performs as a soloist, in chamber ensembles, and with her clarinet trio, the Varga Trio, while also playing in various orchestras.
Silvia teaches piano at the Musik-Akademie Basel and performs in concerts across Switzerland and Europe.
