The second concert of Kammermusikwoche 2026 features the Leonis Trio in a program that brings together three distinct sound worlds, spanning from Classical clarity to late-Romantic expression.
Joseph Haydn’s Piano Trio No. 38 in D major, Hob. XV:24 captivates with its elegant lightness, refined humor, and the balanced interplay between the instruments that lies at the heart of chamber music.
In contrast, Paul Juon’s Piano Trio No. 2 in B minor, Op. 39 “Caprice” unfolds a work of great expressive intensity, oscillating between late-Romantic richness and a distinctly Russian-inflected melancholy. Finally, Louise Farrenc’s Piano Trio No. 1 in E-flat major, Op. 33 offers a striking example of the compositional mastery of a long-overlooked composer, whose music impresses with its structural clarity and tonal depth.
The Leonis Trio was founded in 2024 at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). After only three months of activity, it was admitted to the network Le Dimore del Quartetto and, in the 2024/2025 academic year, completed the Stauffer Artist Diploma in chamber music in the class of the Quartetto di Cremona. In this context, the ensemble had the opportunity to benefit from the guidance of distinguished musicians such as Marc Danel, Andrea Lucchesini, and Günter Pichler. Other important mentors during their development include the pianists Christoph Berner and Valeria Jegorova Robinson, as well as the duo Runge & Ammon.
In 2025, the Leonis Trio was awarded second prize at the Kiwanis Music Prize in Zurich, and in 2026 at the international Giulio Rospigliosi Competition. The ensemble performs regularly across Italy, France, and Switzerland, with appearances at Le Fil d’Ariane in Collonges-sous-Salève, Les Aubes Musicales in Geneva, the Richard Wagner Museum in Lucerne and the Easter Festival in Montepulciano.
Since September 2025, the Leonis Trio has been enrolled in the Specialized Master’s Programme in Chamber Music at the Bern University of the Arts (HKB), under the guidance of Prof. Patrick Jüdt, where it is supported by the KULT Musikagentur.
